Opinions – President Obama

  • obamaIn February President Obama debuted in his first press conference to his newly gained constituency. This press conference addressed the obvious issues of the economy as well as the most pressing issue of A-Rod’s confessed steroid use. Although the usage of steroids by baseball’s beloved Alex Rodriguez is the main concern of Americans, the press conference was mostly focused on the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, which President Obama signed on February 17th 2009.

Obama tackled several of the criticisms of his newly signed bill with poise and confidence. He outlined the details of the bill and explained how the funds would help to boost our struggling economy. A large portion of the financial support will go toward tax relief for individuals and companies. Much to the dismay of the American people, we will Not be receiving checks, but instead it will be in the form of a credit for home buyers, college tuition, and energy efficient home owners. Other large portions will go toward better schools and utilities for education, improved health care, and a strengthened infrastructure. And again we ask ourselves, is this stimulus necessary? After all, do we really need to improve education and health care? These are the questions that need serious answers.

Obama has been in office for nearly two months and he has already received harsh criticisms. Let’s be honest, What could he have done in two months that he isn’t? It took several years for the economic crisis to arrive at this point, yet it should have been fixed, or at least had some sort of progress done at this point, don’t you think? Every president has faced serious issues that he has had to tackle with or without the support of the American people. Why is it that we want to crucify the man after only a month of being in the presidency. He acquired a failing economy and now he needs the support of the people to revive it. Rather you agree with Obama or not, his success means success for the American people.
