Rapper T.I. hosted his “A King Of Oneself (AKOO) brunch at the Mansion Hotel in Atlanta, Georgia yesterday (October 2nd), just a day after returning to the stage for a performance during the 2011 BET Hip-Hop Awards.
A number of celebrities came out to welcome T.I., who was officially released from a halfway house last week, after serving over 11 months in prison for violating his probation/year in Los Angeles.
In addition to his wife, Tameka “Tiny” Cottle, artists like Young Jeezy, Nelly, Ed Lover, DJ Toomp, Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed, former Mayor Andrew Young, and Heavy D., welcomed the rapper during the brunch, which was also filmed by VH1 for his upcoming untitled reality show.
T.I. was extremely humbled by the support he received.
“I appreciate ya’ll for keeping me in your prayers,” T.I. told the crowd. “I’m a sincere, honest, loyal person and I don’t take the support of people lightly. I will grow into something flyer, fresher and richer tomorrow.”
During the event T.I. also officially announced the launch of AQOO, the sister line to his male clothing line AKOO.
“The event was a huge success,” Jeff Belizaire, director of marketing, told AllHipHop.com. “Celebrities, music artists and athletes came out in droves to support AKOO and Tip. We’re looking forward to big things in the very near future.”
This past Sunday southern rapper T.I. held a private brunch to kick-off the next wave of his AKOO clothing line at a private location in Atlanta. At the top of the event surrounded by family and friends Tip received a prestigious gift from Dr. Dre’s highly touted “Beats By Dre” headphones. T.I. is just one of a few selected artists to receive their own customized headphones line from the legendary producers highly successful brand. “I never receive gifts” a joking T.I. said as his family seated close by joined in the laughter. The black and gold headphones bear the wording “Salute The King” on one side with the interior bearing a more personal message, “Big Phil” a nod to T.I.’s slain childhood friend Philant Johnson who was gunned down in 2006. Other attendees at the brunch included rappers Young Jeezy and Nelly, Ed Lover, music mogul Kevin Liles, producer Jazzy Phae and many more. Welcome home, Tip.
